La Gomera
An island where nature still sets the pace
La Gomera is a different kind of destination. A Biosphere Reserve, it preserves one of the oldest forests in Europe, traditions that remain alive, and a volcanic landscape that changes with every step. Here, everything happens unhurriedly, yet leaves a lasting impression.

The Columbian Island
Unique nature and character
It is an island where silence exists, where paths are explored without rushing, and where nature still sets the pace. A Biosphere Reserve, it safeguards landscapes that seem untouched and a way of life that still breathes authenticity.
Its rugged relief, full of ravines and viewpoints, makes it a surprising place where the green of the laurisilva contrasts with the blue of the Atlantic.
Known as the Columbian Island, it was Christopher Columbus’s last stop before his voyage to America. Today, it remains a place of departure… but towards another way of travelling.
Of volcanic origin, its geological history has shaped a singular territory, crowned by the Alto de Garajonay (1,487 m), in the heart of the National Park, a World Heritage Site.
Six municipalities, one single character: warm, simple, and deeply connected to the land.
World Heritage Site
Garajonay National Park
Declared a World Heritage Site in 1986, this park protects a Tertiary gem: the laurisilva rainforest. It is an ecological treasure of endemic vegetation and accessible trails that cross a landscape of vertiginous ravines and fertile valleys.
On its peaks, the trade winds create horizontal rain, a phenomenon that nurtures this mystical-looking rainforest, where whimsically shaped trees reach heights of 15 metres. Due to its natural wealth and unique atmosphere, La Gomera is, in its own right, the “magical island”.
Our identity
Living traditions of the aborigines
La Gomera is the island that best preserves the legacy of its ancestors. Its culture is a living testimony of history, with unique customs that have been internationally recognised for their inestimable value.
An authentic whistled language that allows long-distance communication using only the mouth and fingers. Declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009.
It uses the same chácaras (castanets) and drums that the Europeans encountered when they arrived. The dance has not changed for centuries, keeping the pre-Hispanic essence alive.
Women artisans work the clay without a potter's wheel, just as they did a thousand years ago, using pebbles and small wooden tools. Basketry, woodwork, and looms that weave traperas (rag rugs) and carpets from strips of old cloth also stand out.
